Want to find credible info on adopting a rescue animal? Over 200 staff and volunteers from shelters and rescue groups in the USA were recently interviewed about their work. From these interviews, twelve ‘hot topic’ rescue blog posts were created, including tips for taking care of a new pet, the most common adoption myths (and there are many), and things to consider before adopting.

This is an excellent resource on the best way to help animals that so desperately need the RIGHT person to take them home. Although the research was conducted in the USA, the content relates to any shelter and rescue organisation, regardless of location.

Have a read here and please help spread the word about rescue. ❤️

You are invited to Storytime Interactive: An Evening with Alex Cearns hosted by Snap Happy at Team Digital.

Photography is the art of visual storytelling and every image has three stories attached to it. There’s the one created by the viewer, the one intended by the photographer, and the actual circumstances involved in the image capture.

Join Alex Cearns from Houndstooth Studio as she presents a selection of her animal portrait images – some never before seen. Attendees will have the opportunity to select 15 random images from her collection and Alex will share the stories behind them.

Working with animals can be chaotic and unpredictable. Often there’s as much going on behind the scenes, as there is in the final image. Alex will discuss how she captured that quirky expression, if there was a degree of difficulty or danger involved in getting the shot, and the distractions happening around her at the time.

Named International Professional Pet Photographer of the Year (Lucies) in 2016 and the WA AIPP Professional Pet and Animal Photographer of the Year 2017, this night with Alex is not to be missed.

It only costs $25 per person to attend and there will be light refreshments and wine served on the night.

WHEN: Friday 18 August 2017 | 6pm – 8pm
WHERE: Team Digital, 268 Lord St, East Perth
COST: $25
Seats are limited to 36 guests

Here’s what participants had to say:

“This was a great refresher course for me. Alex’s energy is infectious and she is a wonderful presenter. I loved her explanations about how to get the shot and the examples were excellent. Great day! Thank you.” Fran

“This is a fantastic course that I would recommend to anyone needing inspiration and confidence with their photography. Alex is a great teacher – down to earth and easy to understand. I have attended several photography courses in the past and left feeling confused about the technical details. I’ve already put into practice the things I’ve learnt, with great results! Thanks so much.” Joanna

“Somehow Alex is able to explain and demonstrate how to use and control your camera much better than any other course I have attended before! Thank you so much for a fabulous day. I have learnt so much that I know I will be able to remember.” Liz

“It was great! I loved the anecdotes and examples. Was so relieved it wasn’t full of hard to understand technical stuff. Am recommending it to all my friends who have a DSLR.” Beth

“I had some real “Aha!” moments today. The practical session was excellent and the afternoon session was awesome. Thank you!” Anne

“What a joy! This course exceeded all my expectations! I finally understand aperture. Finally! Thank you so much.”

“A fantastic day. Thank you. It’s hard to single out a favourite part of the course, it was all fantastic! I think the shift in my understanding about the technical side of things was a huge help for me. Also loved the food, the jokes and above all the tips! I can’t wait to get out there to put everything into practice.” Steph

“Excellent value – worth more than the price!” Todd

All the ordered Double Take Dogs Fundraising Exhibition prints and photos have been collected from Fitzgerald Photo Imaging and will be in the post en route to their new homes later this week. They look stunning on the slick Smooth Pearl paper, which was kindly donated by Ilford Imaging Australia. And Fitzies were awesome in wavering the printing costs as well. This saved us a stack of $$$ and meant more money went directly to the dogs of the Dogs’ Refuge Home of WA. Thanks to Ilford and Fitzies for their generous support. Great team work all round!
