Exhibition for the Bali Animal Welfare Association

Houndstooth Studio invites
you to

Look Twice – the animals of Bali as never seen before.

 One Night Only
Photographic Exhibition & Fundraiser

 6:30pm – 9:30pm Friday 8th June 2012

Tompkins on Swan, cnr Dunkley Ave &  Canning Hwy, Alfred Cove, Perth WA

The Look Twice exhibition showcases the animals of Bali as never seen before. These uplifting and poignantly beautiful images reveal their strength and spirit, and are a testament to the valuable work undertaken to save their lives.  You will fall in love with every one.

Just like our pets at home, Bali animals deserve to be loved, cared for and nourished. Yet thousands of street dogs, cats and other domestic animals in Bali endure starvation, disease and neglect. Left unattended these animals suffer enormously. Tourists in Bali can be overwhelmed by the distressing sight of animals in pain and often don’t know how to help.

The Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA) is dedicated to reducing the suffering of Bali’s street dogs and other animals by running a 24 hour animal ambulance rescue service, a mobile sterilisation clinic for population control and rabies eradication, a fully staffed veterinary clinic and rescue centre in Ubud, an animal adoption program, and a continually expanding range of community education programs to improve the health and welfare of Bali animals …but it is increasingly difficult for BAWA to continue this amazing work without the  desperately needed funds to support these operations. BAWA is funded entirely by individual donations, fundraising projects and the kind efforts of volunteers. They don’t receive government support and urgently need our help!

In January 2012 we flew to Bali and photographed more than 50 rescued street dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and other species including rabbits, piglets, ducks, lizards, turtles, snakes,  roosters, ducks and monkeys in temporarily constructed studios around Ubud. This is the first time Bali street animals have been photographed in the clarity of a studio environment and the results are deeply moving.

Sixty exhibited images will be available for purchase in two sizes and fabulous silent auction items, generously donated by compassionate businesses, are up for grabs.

We invite you to be a part of this special one-night-only exhibition. Together we can help BAWA change the lives of Bali animals.  100% of profits from “Look Twice” go to BAWA.

Sahara on video – and us too!

Little Sahara flew around Australia in December to raise awareness for shelter dogs. We had the pleasure of photographing her at the Dog’s Refuge Home of WA and in the studio. She was such a joy to take pics of!

Here’s the fab video clip of her travels – can you spot Team Houndstooth, LOL?

Recent Award Press

The Subiaco Post published the article below in their latest issue. And, here’s a gallery of press images taken by Community News, where I’m in front of the camera for a change – now there’s something you don’t see every day, LOL! “Thank goodness” I say, not my most comfortable place to be but sometimes it’s apparently necessary, SIGH. What a totally cute RSPCA puppy though, and she already has a home! Yay!

Macy Kitten Grabbit

I was thrilled to learn that my entry in a recent “Design a Grabbit dog toy” competition was chosen as a winner for manufacture – and now a Macy Grabbit in honour of my 5 month old kitten is about to become a reality thanks to Fetching Dogs! Originally intended as a one-off, Fetching Dogs have arranged for us to receive 12 special edition Macy Grabbits and 12 special edition Mini Macy Cat Toys! These are available to Houndstooth Studio clients only and will be ready in a few weeks. We announced this on our Facebook page and all 12 Macy Grabbits were snapped up – so Fetching Dogs have agreed to make six more of each size! Yay! We are taking orders now – first in best dressed!  The Macy Grabbits are $9.95 plus P&P and the Mini Macys are $4.95 plus P&P. All proceeds go to the Sydney Pet Rescue & Adoption!

Dog’s Refuge Home Long-Termers

We have been working on a special photography project with the Dogs’ Refuge Home (DRH) in Shenton Park to highlight their long-term pooch residents – some of whom have been at the DRH for 3 years. Having met and photographed the pooches, I can vouch that they are beautiful, loving dogs, each with different personalities, and all with big hearts. Surely the right forever homes for each of them are out there somewhere? We now need YOUR help to get these posters out and about in Perth and as viral as possible. PDF versions are available on the Long Termers page of the DRH website http://www.dogshome.org.au/long-termers/ and hard copies will be available from their office shortly. Lets help Axel, Frankie, Tyler, Bailey, Bridget, Bullet, Kira, Bruno and Rusty find their new homes.

Named as Best Canine Photographer /Artist

I flew to Melbourne yesterday for a quick 17 hour round trip to attend the national 4th Annual Master Dog Breeders and Associates Dog Owner’s Choices Awards last night.  The awards are designed to recognise exceptional service and standards within the dog industry, and are the only awards of thier kind within Australia.

I was nominated by my lovely clients (18 times apparently!) in the Best Canine Photographer / Artist category – a field with 12 other photographers vying for the title and was thrilled when I was announced as the winner! I can’t thank the people who nominated me enough and am so appreciative of the time they all took to write submissions about their Houndstooth Studio experience. Thanks also to the major awards sponsor Dogz Online.

We were in good company too with Dogs Life Magazine winning Best Dog Publication in the MDBA Dog Owner’s Choice Awards – congrats to Laura and team. We’re proud to be a photography partner!

Am looking forward to working under the title of Best Canine Photographer / Artist in 2011 and beyond!
