Why should I choose Houndstooth Studio?

We love your pets like our own.

At Houndstooth Studio we see your pet as you see them. That inquisitive head tilt. The lolloping gait. Their exuberant, rough and tumble play. Their eternally loyal and loving smile. We see all of these nuances – they’re hallmarks of your pet’s individual personality – and we capture them in timeless portraits of exquisite detail and full colour.

We live and breathe animal photography. Our photographer Alex Cearns has photographed animals exclusively for the past decade and is considered one of the best of her craft. Surrounded by animals her entire life, her innate connection and natural handling skills have helped her become an expert in photographing timid wildlife, rescued animals with behaviour issues or sick and elderly pets. She thinks it’s down to her energy and body language, but when people see how she works, many say her connection with their pets is on a whole different level.

From the tiniest to the largest domestic pets and wildlife, Alex has photographed almost every kind of furred, feathered, fanged, finned, scaled, hoofed and clawed creature.  She is as excited by your ‘fur kid’ as you are and she treats your pets like she treats her own. Happy pets and happy humans are our number one priority.

As a team, we are consummate professionals. Everything we do is informed by our passion to deliver photographic excellence to you. As the leading pet photography studio in Western Australia, we work hard to make each session a truly unique and memorable experience. We maintain a consistently high standard in our images and products so you can rest assured that your pet will look their very best in our photographs.

What does a studio pet photo session involve?

Your pet’s portrait session takes place in our purpose-built, air-conditioned pet photography studio located in North Perth. The studio is a safe, fun space where your pet can be totally at ease. We use the fastest Elinchrom studio lighting to instantly capture your pet’s personality.

We might ask you to participate in your pet’s photography session by helping us maneuver your pet into position. Alex takes care of the rest!

How long does a photo session take?

Each session is for one or two pets and takes approximately an hour.  We work at a pace that suits your pet and can allow extra time for animals who are shy or nervous.

Do I need to make a booking?

Sure do. The studio is open by appointment only and appointments are in high demand. Your  booking date and time are arranged at the most suitable time for you during our photo session times of 11am, 1pm and 3pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

We hold emergency appointments outside of our regular photo session hours for young puppies, elderly pets and pets with health issues. Please don’t hesitate to ask us about these should you require a ‘sooner rather than later’ booking. There is a $75 charge for an emergency session.

We also photograph additional pets (more than two) on request for $75 per extra pet.

How do I make a booking?

There are two ways to make a booking:

  • Call our office manager Colleen on 0413 174 069
  • Complete our Contact Us form.

Once your enquiry is received Colleen will reply with our full session information and available times and dates.  When a date and time is agreed, an online booking form will be emailed to you. Simply complete this form and return it within three business days along with your session fee payment and you are all booked in.

Our office is attended from Monday to Friday 8:30am to 12 noon.

What are your photo session times?

Our photo session appointments are held on Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. We can fit emergency sessions in around these times.

Where is Houndstooth Studio located?

Our studio is centrally located in North Perth at a prominent intersection. We have ample onsite parking and will provide our address once your booking is confirmed.

I'm worried my pet will be difficult. How does Alex get animals to co-operate?

Think your pet too boisterous, too shy or too timid? Or they won’t sit still long enough to for a photo to be taken? No problem!

Alex frequently photographs nervous, anxious and aggressive dogs. Renowned for her highly developed animal handling skills, gentleness and patience, she can photograph even the most difficult but beloved pet.

Alex’s photo sessions go way beyond her skills with a camera.  As her understanding of animal behaviour and body language come into play, she gains your pet’s full attention and trust, while keeping them comfortably relaxed as she captures their true character.

How long after my photo shoot can I view the images?

A ‘sneak peek’ of images will be available on our Facebook page within seven days of your studio pet photo session. We contact you to let you know when your sneak peek is posted.

After your photo session we arrange a suitable date with you to attend your purchase appointment and view your images in our client lounge.

What does the purchase appointment involve?

Your purchase appointment is held a week or two after your photo session and usually takes around an hour.

People often tell us that photographs are their most precious visual memories and we appreciate that you will want to make the right choices at the viewing. After all, your pet’s photographs will be in your home for many years to come.

We use software designed to assist with your decision making, and to help you choose your favourite images to be produced as prints or products. Before your appointment, it is well worth considering where you’d like to hang your photographs and the sizes of images or products you’ll want. This can help alleviate the stress of decision making.

One purchase appointment is included per client in your session fee as your only buying opportunity. We are unable to allow additional time after the viewing session for you to decide on images or products, but if a second viewing appointment is desired, a $150 fee is charged.

We do not provide images on disc for you to take home to consider and all orders must be placed during the viewing session. With this in mind, we request that all persons involved in the decision-making process attend this session.

At your purchase appointment we offer two payment options;

  • Pay in full at time of ordering

  • Our no wait ‘Enjoy Now, Pay Later’ lay-by system with PayRight. This allows you to collect your order and enjoy your artworks as soon as they are printed. Pay just 10% deposit at your viewing and choose how much and how often you make your repayments. The simple sign-up process is completed at your session. Payments are interest free with a low monthly fee. (A valid Drivers Licence and a Debit, Visa or Mastercard is required.)

How many prints do I have to buy and can I choose the sizes?

That’s entirely up to you. You choose the number of prints you would like to purchase and their sizes. We have an extensive range of finished prints and products to choose from, all crafted by a specialist photo laboratory, and are happy to assist you with your choices. Your viewing appointment is held in our display room, which showcases our stunning product range.

Have you considered prints mounted on aluminum? They add a modern, sleek look to any home. Or how about a series of striking canvas prints, ready to hang? We also offer framed pieces, made by Perth’s finest craftsmen and available in a range of size combinations.

Can you tell me about your product range?

Fine Art Prints

Our individual fine art prints are available in portrait, landscape or square layout with a range of sizes designed to fit standard photo frames or custom frames from our professional product range. Ultra chrome pigment inks and Ilford smooth pearl paper ensure colour accuracy, quality and consistency.

Alumalux Composite Panels

Aluminium composite panels are sleek and tremendously stylish, making them one of the most sophisticated ways to display and present your Houndstooth Studio portraits. Images are printed directly onto a rigid aluminum panel, which is then fitted with 10mm standoffs at the back, so that they appear to float off the wall. With the smoothest of surfaces and a shine that accentuates colour, the ‘Wow’ factor of alumalux panels makes them one of our most popular product choices.

Canvas Prints

Our images can be printed directly onto archival grade matte canvas, a heavyweight 100% cotton product with exceptional print quality. Each canvas is carefully stretched onto a wooden frame and finished with a satin, water based coating. This finish protects the canvas from humidity, light and fingerprints and ensures it remains resilient after stretching

Deluxe Framed Prints

Our framing is handcrafted by experts who understand the standard and quality we require of our finished products. Available in sleek black frames, each frame is finished with an internal fillet and an archival matt board. Many framing combinations and sizes are available to suit your print choices.

Ice Blocks

Ice Blocks are ideal for displaying your Houndstooth Studio images on a desk or bookshelf. Ice Blocks comprise a thick designer block of acrylic. Your choice of image is mounted at the rear with optically clear adhesive that results in a smooth finish, free of air bubbles, dust or visible glue. The reflection of the print gives a contemporary three-dimensional effect.

Albums

Our custom-made large albums are unique to Houndstooth Studio. They come in two sizes and hold 10 prints. Each one has a magnetic close, is embossed with ‘Houndstooth Studio’ and is presented in a fabric-lined box.

Do the products come with a guarantee?

Yes. Our prints and products have an archival life of 100 years and are guaranteed for life.

How long do the products take to arrive once ordered?

Your products will be printed and ready approximately 4 to 6 weeks after your order is placed at your purchase appointment.
